The Magic of Bergdorf Goodman Where the best is better!
Bergdorf Goodman is to me what Tiffany’s was to Holly Golightly – the place I go to right the world!
No visit to Manhattan is complete without paying homage to Bergdorf’s. It’s a fantasy, from the basement beauty counters to the smorgasbord of high-end home décor on the seventh floor, home to one of my favorite restaurants, BG at Bergdorf Goodman.
High tea at BG’s is the quintessential New York experience. The food is glorious. The chicken salad with truffle sandwich is a burst of flavor so splendid that I forgot who I was and purchased the Bergdorf Goodman Cookbook. Full disclosure- I’ve never actually made their chicken salad because I don’t cook for religious reasons*. But I look forward to it every time I have high tea. The scones are the best I have ever tasted; the last time I was there, the couple seated next to us heard us raving about them and ordered them as an off-menu dessert.
People-watching is part of the fun of BG’s. You see it all – from midwestern tourists in their regulation sneakers to a party of young women dressed in summer frocks and hats. It’s the kind of place where people are comfortable stopping at strangers’ tables to compliment them on how they look.
Bergdorf’s has renovated its former Palette Café on the beauty floor—it’s now Café Grinori. I haven’t eaten there, but I will check it out the next time I have out-of-town company.
